When Was the Last Time You Simply Sat with God? Learning to Love His Presence More Than the Noise

When was the last time you sat in silence just to be with God — no worship playlist, no prayer requests, no phone nearby… just you and Him?

We say He’s our everything, but how often do we treat His presence like an afterthought — squeezing Him into our leftovers instead of giving Him our first and best? I know what that feels like. I’ve rushed past God on my way to “doing things for God.” I’ve filled my day with noise, all while my soul was quietly starving.

But I’ve learned this: We weren’t created to just serve Him — we were created to be with Him and love Him. That’s our purpose. That’s our design.

And once you begin to value God’s presence — truly value it — everything begins to shift. You stop performing and start resting. You stop striving and start abiding. You begin to crave those hidden-away moments with the Father, because that’s where you’re most at peace. That’s where you’re most you.

The Presence That Changes Everything

I’ve learned that being with God is the most important part of my day.

Not just opening my Bible or praying through a list — but being with Him. Sitting. Breathing. Listening. Just resting in His nearness.

And the more time I spend with Him, the more I want to.

What started as discipline has become desire.

What used to feel like obligation has become the delight of my day.

I can honestly say now: I can’t wait to get alone with Him.

I’ve found that the best place on earth is hidden in Him.

Psalm 91:1 says,

“Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.”

And Psalm 27:4 echoes this longing:

“One thing I ask from the Lord… that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life.”

That’s my heart.

To dwell.

To sit.

To just be.

What Does It Mean to Value God’s Presence?

To value something means we protect it, prioritize it, and make room for it.

So to value God’s presence means we intentionally create space — not out of routine, but out of love.

And it doesn’t always look like a deep devotional time. Sometimes it looks like:

•Turning off the noise to sit quietly with Him

•Listening more than speaking in prayer

•Choosing worship over worry

•Praying in the car, in the kitchen, on the go

•Saying, “Lord, I just want You — not answers, not blessings — just You.”

And you know what’s beautiful?

God wants us to come as we are. No masks. No pretending. No filters. Just the real, raw, present version of us.

Like a child crawling into their daddy’s lap, we don’t need to impress Him. We just need to be with Him.

Practical Ways to Welcome His Presence

Here are some practical ways I’ve learned to seek and honor His presence:

1. Start your day in stillness. Even 5–10 minutes in the Word and prayer sets your focus and feeds your spirit.

2. Talk to Him like a friend. Throughout the day, invite Him into your thoughts: “Lord, what do You think?” or “Be with me in this moment.”

3. Choose worship over background noise. Let your environment reflect your heart’s desire.

4. Repent quickly. Don’t run from Him when you fall — run to Him. His presence restores, not rejects.

5. Be honest. He already knows. Speak freely, cry freely, rest freely.

A Few Heart-Checking Questions:

•When was the last time you sat with God without an agenda?

•When was the last time you let Him love you without trying to earn it?

•When was the last time you put down the mask and just rested?

Final Thoughts

We live in a noisy world — full of tasks, roles, opinions, distractions.

But God’s invitation is still the same:

Come and sit. Be still. Be with Me.

You don’t need to perform.

You don’t have to fix everything.

Just come be with your Father.

Because when we learn to truly value His presence, it changes how we live — not just on Sundays, but in the quiet corners of every ordinary day.

And trust me…

Once you taste the sweetness of time with Him, you’ll never stop coming back.

🙏

Closing Prayer:

Father,

Thank You for Your presence — for being near, for being constant, and for never needing me to perform to be loved. Forgive me for the times I’ve rushed through my days and missed the most important part: You.

Teach me to slow down.

To sit with You.

To desire You more than I desire comfort, answers, or even clarity.

Make Your presence the place I run to — not out of routine, but out of love.

Let me be a daughter who finds her peace, joy, and identity in simply being with You.

I don’t want to just know about You.

I want to know You.

And I want to love being with You.

In Jesus’ name,

Amen.
